Press Forming

Press Forming is based on the principle of using compressed air to force the plastic sheet into contact with the tool face.

This allows fine details and textures to be formed into the face of the part.

It is created by placing the flat sheet of chosen material under a heater where it undergoes a softening process due to chemical changes within the plastic. When the sheet reaches an optimum temperature it is removed and placed onto the bed of the forming press where the moulding process takes place for increased clarity and finish.

Benefits Include

  • A range of surface textures
  • Undercuts are possible
  • Higher definition than Vacuum Forming
  • Lower tooling costs compared to Injection Moulding
  • Ideally suited to low/medium production volumes
